Founded in 1887—six years before Lokmanya Tilak institutionalized public Ganeshotsav—by traditional wrestling masters of Hindu and Muslim communities, Guruji Talim is celebrated for its dazzling golden ornaments, magnificent floral sets, and grand royal chariot processions.
1. The 1887 Gymnasium & Secular Brotherhood
In 1887, long before political or communal tensions arose, the wrestling gymnasium (Talim) of Guruji in Pune united athletes from all backgrounds. Wrestling masters Shri Bhiku Shinde and Ustaad Nalband established this Sarvajanik Ganpati to celebrate physical vigor, mental discipline, and mutual respect.
2. The 3rd Manacha Ganpati Protocol
As the third in the sacred hierarchy of Pune's Manache Ganpatis, Guruji Talim follows immediately behind Tambdi Jogeshwari on Laxmi Road during the Anant Chaturdashi immersion procession, hailed by thousands of cheering pilgrims.
3. Golden Ornaments & Chariot Artistry
Guruji Talim was the first Ganpati mandal in Pune to adorn its idol with substantial pure gold ornaments and diamond crowns. The deity is mounted upon lavishly illuminated floral chariots (such as the Mayur Rath and Surya Rath) designed by top art directors.

- Location: Ganpati Chowk on Laxmi Road, Pune’s primary shopping street.
